At first, producing mostly water mattresses and softside sleep systems; American National produced its first air mattress in 1986 and has been inventing, re-inventing and improving the concept over the last 20 years.

DESCRIPTION: Directions East started in 1984 as a small manufacturer of a unique and patented wooden furniture line called “Child Safe Products” with an emphasis on safety mechanisms for children’s furniture. From there we expanded into educational toys with a line called “Dr Franks” winning several distinguished awards for both product lines in newspapers, trade magazines, and even television (NBC Today show).

Over time and through years of experience we have narrowed our focus on strictly designing unique furniture and accessories. The uniqueness comes from a talented design group, each with their own specialty in metal, wood, or hardware mechanisms. The results are furniture that makes the creative use of hardware, materials, and finishes under the guidelines of a style that is simple. After each piece is created we also work on maintaining the most reasonable pricing possible giving the product exceptional value.

To assure the product is marketable for our retailers, we will even select a limited number of stores to test our products for a season and get their comments back at the end of that season. We listen to our customers as we would not be where we are without them!

2004 marked our 20th anniversary and like the clipper ship in our logo our direction is continually forward. Just this past year our direct import/private label programs has become our fastest growing department in terms of sales.

With the vast network of domestic and overseas manufacturers we have developed over the years we can cater to our direct import customers’ needs in terms of design, quality level (mid to high), and volume (small to large).
