Mattress Firm Launches World’s First Air Conditioned Bed

YuMe™ Combines High-End Bedding With Luxury Vehicle Technology

September 24, 2010 - In response to millions of Americans not getting enough quality, restorative sleep, Mattress Firm, one of the nation’s leading specialty retailers, introduces the world’s first air conditioned bed. YuMe™ is a climate control sleep system that provides personalized cooling and heating options for both sides of the mattress. Now, individuals have greater control over sleep preferences whether sleeping alone or with a partner.

Mattress Firm launched YuMe™ in Austin, TX on September 19th and will feature the product at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas September 24th – October 17th. The new luxury mattress incorporates world-leading climate control technology by Amerigon with high-end bedding by Sleep, Inc to address three critical factors for quality sleep - comfort, support and dual temperature control.

“We explored multiple innovative options before developing something truly unique for our customers,” said Dave Brummett, vice president of product development for Mattress Firm. “We are excited to offer a product that not only pushes the bedding industry, but addresses a significant factor in the sleep environment. Studies show that the right temperature can help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and get better quality sleep.”

YuMe™ features the same heating and cooling technology found in the seats of more than 6.1 million vehicles including luxury automobiles produced by Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Jaguar/Land Rover. This proven technology uses ambient air to efficiently heat and cool the surface of the mattress from head to toe with wireless remotes.

“This is an unprecedented product that marries proven technology from very different industries. Combining expertise from the finest automotive technology with luxury bedding materials gives consumers personalized control over what may be keeping them up at night – support, comfort and temperature,” said Steve Stagner, CEO of Mattress Firm. “Finally, there is a holistic solution for many sleep needs. By providing customers with personalized climate control options, Mattress Firm has taken another step forward in ensuring our customer’s happiness.”

YuMe™ is made with high-end foam and features a 1” comfort layer made with 30% coconut oil instead of petroleum. Coconut oil, aside from being a renewable resource, allows for increased breathability and extended product life. Another green feature of YuMe™ is that by controlling the temperature directly at the surface of the bed, you can eliminate the need to heat or cool your entire living space, thus reducing your carbon footprint and saving money. YuMe™ is thoughtfully designed so you can feel good about owning it and sleeping on it.
