May
17, 2010 - The mattress/bedding
industry “Green Initiative”
program spearheaded by the
Specialty Sleep Association
(SSA) has added a new corporate
member:
Jones Fiber Products, Inc.
of Humboldt, TN. Additionally,
the company’s president, Kenneth
Oliver, has been named to serve
on the Founding Board of the
“Green Initiative,” which is
focused on defining eco-friendly
sleep and providing clarity for
consumers shopping for
mattresses and bedding.
“The key part of the ‘Green
Initiative” is also our outreach
to suppliers in the
mattress/bedding industry. Kenny
Oliver and Jones Fiber Products
is certainly one of the leading
firms in this space,” said Dale
T. Read, president of the SSA.
“We are looking forward to their
active involvement in our board
as our Safety & Environmental
Program evolves and expands in
the months ahead.”
Jones Fiber Products has been a
leader in the cotton batting
industry since 1981. The company
is committed to continually
developing and producing
high-quality fire-resistant
products using natural cotton
fiber as its base component, as
well as products that
incorporate inherent
fire-resistant rayon. The
company has long been committed
to environmental safety at its
manufacturing locations across
the country.
“We’ve been watching the good
work of the SSA ‘Green
Initiative’ panel for almost one
year now and see that they are
making tremendous strides for
our industry” said Oliver. “This
is an important issue for the
bedding/mattress sector and our
company is eager to participate
in the program.”
The SSA has recently announced
an industry-wide product
labeling effort that is the core
elements of its Safety &
Environmental Program. The
ongoing national initiative is
centered on addressing a key
industry challenge: helping to
bring “transparency” to
acceptable practices in the
manufacture and marketing of
eco-friendly sleep products.
All aspects of the SSA program
are based on in-depth national
research and input from
manufacturers, retailers, retail
sales associates (RSAs), and the
market at-large – as well as
analyses of applicable consumer
protection laws at the federal
and state levels.
Founded in 1995, the Specialty
Sleep Association is a national
not-for-profit organization
created to facilitate the growth
and positive awareness of the
specialty sleep category. SSA
membership is comprised of more
than 100 manufacturers and
retailers ranging from small,
family-owned businesses to large
corporations.
